Another big night for the Northern Horde, as they skated to an 11-1 win over the Diablos on July 28 at Breck. With Pete Morrow out with an ankle injury, Casey Johnson of the Walking Sticks/Wildcats filled in admirably. The Horde controlled the play of the game, out shooting the Diablos 42-12. Mark Paska opened the scoring at 13:47 of the first when he stuck a loose puck under the pads of the Diablos’ goalie. That was followed by two goals from Jon Zimmerman, including a breakaway set up by a strong defensive play by Will Schultz at the defensive blue line, and Dan Kline’s first goal of the night. Andrew Dayton scored his first goal for the Horde at 16:09 of the second on a sweet put back off a shot from Will Schultz that was created by Ryan Chester’s good defensive positioning. This highlighted a three point night for Andrew. That was followed by two goals from Jeff Nelson, including a slap shot off the face-off, and two goals from Tyler LaMont. Will Schultz scored his first goal for the Horde at 1:33 of the second period with a beautiful assist from Andrew Dayton. Dan Kline scored his second of the night in the third period off a Liam Monahan feed. In all, 11 of the 13 Horde skaters got a point on the evening as the defense again kept the Diablos in check, including a few hard hits from Liza Messinger.
